It is “All” about GOD’S (FATHER, SON, HOLY SPIRIT) glory!
Today, as we were gathered in Sunday School and then in the regular service, there were times I was reflecting on the resurrection and what it ultimately was/is about. What did the resurrection accomplish…and then my minds eyes drifted to a scene in GOD’S Word that brought tears to my eyes along with an overflowing, inexpressible joy in my heart:
1 Then I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” 3 And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it, 4 and I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it. 5 And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” 6 And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. 7 And he went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who was seated on the throne. 8 And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying,
11 Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!” 13 And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” 14 And the four living creatures said, “Amen!” and the elders fell down and worshiped.
Rev 5:1-14 (ESV)
What makes the gospel such good news? Perhaps this will seem obvious to you….but the more I dwelt on the Gospel and the more I reflect on the Word of GOD the more I begin to weep, seeking forgiveness for my selfishness. It is so easy for me to look at myself and think of GOD’S love for me in sending HIS SON so that I could have eternal life in JESUS. I stop and think about how quickly the focus of a person can be removed from what is important to that which is secondary. So, when I say our salvation is secondary in the gospel you might be thinking I have lost my mind and/or been to long outside of GOD’S Word. Indeed there are so many Scriptures which tell us directly of the LORD coming to seek and save the lost, to call sinners to repentance, and that the world might be saved through HIM. Yes! That is all true! I rejoice in it and by GOD’S grace, humbly prostrate and worship HIM for HIS mercy.
But is that it? Is it that the GOD of the universe, the CREATOR of all has called us/you/me out of darkness into HIS marvelous light? No…that is the secondary and, if I may be so bold, pails in comparison to what is truly important, what is truly of value, what is truly of significance and meaning: The resurrection was the final part of the good news that we would be able to witness and see GOD glorifying GOD! Because of the resurrection and then the subsequent indwelling of the HOLY SPIRIT we have now been given the blessing of seeing GOD do what is the only beautiful meaningful act of GOD which we were created for…to see HIM glorify HIMSELF!
It dawned on me as I was granted the grace to think and meditate on the FATHER glorifying the SON…and knowing I could only do this by the HOLY SPIRIT…there was not one thought of myself or of anything else for that matter….just seeing GOD exalted and glorified. What then became apparent, which also resulted in me seeing just how much I need CHRIST JESUS the LORD for every thought and breath…was the complete joy in my heart. It was such a short period of time, but for a moment…just a glimpse, no more than a half a minute perhaps….I was aware of a peace, joy, and love at just the thought of seeing…just having my eyes looking upon the SON be exalted and glorified and in returned the FATHER being exalted and glorified! Nothing else had meaning and value…nothing else had existence…for that very short time it seemed to me I had been granted the clarity to see (Also to recognized my weakness) heaven is about…completely seeing and knowing GOD. There a risen LAMB! There the LION of JUDAH who comes and takes the scroll. Notice….all the angels and John were “Seeing” what was occurring…and this seeing led to immediate, complete, continual, and unrestrained worship and praise! GOD is pleased to have a sinful rebellious creation saved and to see HIM glorify HIMSELF…and to know that this was accomplished by GOD and for GOD through GOD…only leaves one to, I believe, in humility worship, sing, and praise GOD the FATHER and GOD the SON by the power of GOD the HOLY SPIRIT. The good news is we get to see GOD and HIS glory…we get to have eyes to see. How weak I am to think there was anything to have my eyes on anything other that the matchless majestic beauty of GOD and knowing when we see HIM…whatever else may be or be around us…will have no value except, perhaps, to the may direct them to look at HIM and worship.
We get to see the LORD JESUS glory! Praise the LORD! Glory to GOD! Worthy is the LAMB!
